Greetings from the Chamber!

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to introduce you to Berea and the Berea Chamber of Commerce.

Our community is located in one of the fastest growing counties in the Commonwealth along Interstate 75, a major north/south corridor for transportation. In fact, we are located within a 600 mile radius of the nation’s major retail markets and approximately 60% of the nation’s population. We take great pride in our small town atmosphere, emphasize family, and are blessed with quality education, cultural and recreational opportunities.

We are home to Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, founded in 1855.  The college has been nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report, for their unique labor program in which all students work at least 10 hours per week on campus and receive a full tuition scholarship.  Throughout the last century, Berea College has developed a national market for traditional crafts and has been a driving force in the continued development of Berea’s working artist and craftsmen who call Berea home.  Berea is also known as the Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky and home to the Kentucky Artisan Center, which markets products to the world.

Founded in 1950 by leaders of Berea’s business community, the Berea Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, membership driven organization with a rich heritage having served as a catalyst for community and economic development. In recent years, the Chamber has continued to grow its membership, employed a full-time director and support staff, and is focused on the general welfare and prosperity of Berea and its business community.  We serve as the voice of Berea’s business community on local, state and national issues.

The strength of the Chamber is our members all of which have unique skills and talents. Individually and collectively, they serve the organization and our community as a tremendous source of ideas, financial support and manpower for our various projects.  Our membership is comprised of entrepreneurs; family owned and operated businesses, representatives from the service and professional sectors and large corporations.  Consequently, the interests and needs of our members are diverse.  As we grow the organization our Board and staff are committed to developing programs and benefits that are valued and appreciated by our members, so feel free to pass along your ideas.

If you are new to the Chamber or our community, I hope you find our website informative and I would like to encourage you to get involved in one of our many committees as we work together for a better Berea!

Sincerely,

David Rowlette

Executive Director
